Gaming Board

Friday, Feb 18, 2005

Asked yesterday why he hasn’t filled the three open slots on the Illinois Gaming Board, the governor had this to say:

Blagojevich said the “big problem” in filling the vacancies is that “a lot of good, qualified people either don’t want to be a part of it because it’s been sort of a maligned place” or because they “have a horse in this race,” such as working for a law firm that represents a casino.

Left unsaid, however, was that it was Blagojevich who heaped “malign” on the Board in the first place. It can’t be easy to convince someone to serve on a board when that person knows you’re gonna throw him under the bus at the first opportunity.

Who do I contact to make myself available for the “Gaming” Board?

Do you suppose creating and maintaing Blogging Blagovich’s Blunders will count against me?

  2. - Anonymous - Friday, Feb 18, 05 @ 8:42 am:

I hear Eddie Debartolo Jr.’s three daughters are interested. They can bring their NY Yankees pizza to the board meetings.

  3. - Anonymous - Friday, Feb 18, 05 @ 10:20 am:

I assume not appointing the members is a way to insure that there’s no expansion? Or that the expansion is significantly delayed?

  4. - Anonymous - Friday, Feb 18, 05 @ 10:36 am:

Blago doesn’t need the board to stop more gambling. He can just say he won’t sign a bill. They want to stuff the board with people they can control but the heat is on too high to pull such a stunt.

  5. - Anonymous - Friday, Feb 18, 05 @ 11:15 am:

Isn’t Peterlin the last hold over from the previous incarnation of the board? Maybe he’s waiting for the term to expire in June and start with a fresh board. Who’s the other one on there still?

  6. - Anonymous - Saturday, Feb 19, 05 @ 1:45 pm:

Maybe Chris Kelly (the degenerate gambler) should negotiate with the Board or Tony Retzko could have a big Panda Express with Mae Jang games at the new casino.

Rod was close with State Rep Skippy Saviano–maybe they can do something together in Rosemont

  7. - Anonymous - Sunday, Feb 20, 05 @ 4:01 pm:

Maybe Rod can bring in his childhood buddy Emmet Paloian to advise him on gambling.

I bet the oufit could help, some say they ran Vegas better.

  8. - Anonymous - Sunday, Feb 20, 05 @ 4:39 pm:

Yeah, maybe Blago and Stefanski could pay more street tax to Marco D’Amico and Bobby Abbinanti.

  9. - Anonymous - Sunday, Feb 20, 05 @ 4:50 pm:

Letting the outfit have more control in gambling is NOT a bad idea:
    1. they have experience
    2. Rod knows the players
    3. you can regulate them
    4. they could stop the violence at least random violence
    5. they know how to collect
    6. some people say that Vegas was safer and had more character with them
    7. it can fund education
    8. good food
    9. they know how to share money
    10. the state can make a TV show and license it and make money like the Sopranos and star Dominic Longo
Rod can make Dominic a rich man and keep his word
Skippy and the Don will be happy
Minorities can get a piece of the pie
    More money for the state
and experienced managers with some character, muscle and good food will run the operation

  10. - Anonymous - Sunday, Feb 20, 05 @ 4:59 pm:

Wasn’t DeBartolo close with Vrdolyak? Didn’t he or his daddy give $750,000 to him for the election in 87? Didn’t GRod be Eddie V’s coordinator in 87?
What is the link between ERV, DeBartolo and GRod????

  11. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Feb 22, 05 @ 3:49 pm:

    DeBartolo, Vrdolyak, Chris Kelly, Blagojevich
