Question of the day

Monday, Mar 14, 2005

Old subject, backed up by new polling.

A majority of cell phone users acknowledge they get irritated at other people for using cell phones in public.

The University of Michigan poll found that six in 10 cell users say that using a cell in public can be ‘’a major irritation.'’

About four in 10 said there should be a law that prohibits people from talking on cell phones in public places like museums, movie theaters and restaurants.

Question of the day (sorry it’s so late): Should Illinois ban or restrict cell phone use in public places?

Illinois should ban cell phones in public places.

As long as we are banning things that are annoying we should include people who do not know how to parallel park, people who drive slowly in the left lane, people who pronounce the ‘S’ in Illinois, and people who think the state is only from I-80 North.

Seriously, if we start banning things because they are annoying, we are all in big trouble. I bet we could get 50% of Illinoisans to say that Republicans are irritating and annoying.

Republicans are irratating and annoying … and so are Democrats … and reporters (except you Rich, most of the time). How’s a lobbyist going to do his/her job without taking on a cell phone in a public place, like the Capitol. People just need to learn a little decency and keep their voices quiet in a museum, restaurant, etc.

No legislation can take the place of common sense, and that is what this requires. We simply cannot legislate everything.

You can have an annoying thing, like a cell phone (I do), if you use it the right way (I do). I don’t take it to a museum or a movie with me and when I go to a restaurant, I put it on vibrate and/or in my purse so then I can get calls later, after I’m done and on my way. Not while I’m eating and enjoying conversation with real, live people.

I tend to be one of those irritated by the people who have to talk loud enough on their cell to make sure that the surrounding county knows they have a cell phone. Wow. How cool.

Can we ban everyone from being “anonymous” all the time? Either Anonymous likes to post a lot, or people can’t decide their identity today……Don’t be afraid, put down a name. I did it.

they should ban people from talking on the cell phone while sitting on the toilet. it really affects my concentration.

I think we should ban all idiots from elected office. However, wouldn’t that be anarchy? Maybe we just ban idiots from voting, but, that would lead to one party elections. Oh, btw, can we start that now, so perhaps I can get a pay raise from the next administration? (You know, election year… pay raises….I can dream, can’t I?).
