The Democratic candidates discuss the issues.
Neither Iraq war veteran Tammy Duckworth, technology consultant Christine Cegelis nor college professor Lindy Scott thinks the landmark Roe v. Wade case legalizing abortion nationally should be overturned.
But Scott, who teaches at Wheaton College, calls himself “pro-life†anyway and points to his membership in a group called Democrats for Life. […]
Requiring parental notification when a minor wants an abortion also divides the Democrats. Cegelis opposes such a law while Scott supports it.
Duckworth’s position, though, has been elusive. She told the Daily Herald last December she opposed parental notification. Asked Friday, she initially said the idea appealed to her if a judicial bypass for cases of incest and abuse were included. When pressed, Duckworth said, “I really don’t know.†[…]
None of the candidates support legalizing gay marriage. Cegelis took a bit of a libertarian approach, calling it an issue for individual states to decide.
“I think if it were on the ballot (in Illinois), I’d probably vote for it,†said Cegelis, of Rolling Meadows. “But I don’t think we’re ready for it. It’s not something I’d push for.â€

Watching Democrats squirm is the compelling reason why they should want Roe v Wade overturned. It puts them in this position when it should be the electorate voting on the issue and all politicans showing their hands. Not hiding behind courts.
Then you’ll see Republicans squirm.

This is a dodge too… How the left will let these three off on this one is beyond me. Is someone going to call them Homophobes? I tell gays lay off the Churches. Leave people alone who think your a sinner. You can’t expect their acceptance or worse, make the government demand they accept. Why should Gays bother with acceptance nonsense.
But put it too a vote, and I vote to allow same sex marriage. The civil union stuff is semantics. But put it too a vote. Not make a judge force it on us.

What a low blow by the press. It was totally unfair to ask Duckworth for her opinion on an issue before giving her an opportunity to call Rahm.

Not a good sign that Duckworth hadn’t thought out an answer on a fairly obvious question.
You’d think Rahm would have given her a cheat sheet on the “top 10 good answers to tough Qs”.

Duckworth is obviously out of touch with District 6 values. That she cannot even answer the perennial political question reveals she is not prepared for a leadership position. She should withdraw from the campaign immediately.

I hope Duckworth has an answer now regarding CAFTA. First she said she would have opposed it, then she said she didn’t know enough to have an opinion. That’s not very good for someone who supposedly has an advanced degree in international economics.
