  1. - DOWNSTATE - Tuesday, Feb 14, 06 @ 8:29 am:

Does anyone know how much a state can borrow before it hits it’s limit. The past 4 years they said the budget was balanced and then we find out Blago borrowed 21 billion.Once again this claim is being made and I think the question this time is.How much to we need to borrow?

Love the “cheap show for political purposes” comment about using bricks for a sound barrier on a highway. Of course having bricklayers get a long term job to lay those bricks after a nice contribution is not a cheap show.

  3. - Anon - Tuesday, Feb 14, 06 @ 9:02 am:

I see Brady picked up two more downstate legislative endorsements yesterday….Rick Winkel and Dale Righter.

He keeps unveiling these things a couple at a time. I’m beginning to wonder if this isn’t all part of a very well-planned, methodical march.

Interesting that in spite of the Tribune poll, these guys are still willing to go out on a limb for Brady against the sitting State Treasurer.

Maybe they see or know something the rest of us don’t?

  4. - Maroon - Tuesday, Feb 14, 06 @ 10:42 am:

I just want to make a comment to Rich Miller…

I really enjoy this recent daily feature of linking the more notable political stories around the state. This is a great service for those of us who don’t have the time to go pouring through all the newspapers every day. Thanks, Rich. Keep it up.

On a random side note, I paid a visit to the Abe Lincoln museum in Springfield on Friday. There was a typo on the visitor’s map that I received with my admission. The governor’s name was misspelled “Blagojovich,” which I found amusing…

  5. - Krenzler - Tuesday, Feb 14, 06 @ 11:37 am:

Great news about the ILGOP raising $1 million

  6. - Never Judy - Tuesday, Feb 14, 06 @ 11:58 am:

Not on this news clip, maybe not yet known…

Gidwitz has gone negative on Judy on TV… ad ran on channel 7, Chicago metro, at about 8:50 am.

Ad features unflattering still pic of Judy with graphics and voice over: Judy supported higher taxes, more spending, bigger deficit. Ending tag line something like: why vote for more of the same when its time for a change. Ad followed by vote for Gidwitz spot.

  7. - Governor Give Away - Tuesday, Feb 14, 06 @ 1:01 pm:

If I did my math correctly if the state sends 200 prisoners to Thomson Prison and we hire 75 people, that is over 2.5 prisoners for each employee. I don’t think that is the ratio in our other prisons, but the other prisons are not opening just before the election. How can we afford to continually make these decisions. I hope the Thomson Prison opens but employee safety is not the concern of the Governor at our other state prisons who do not have a 2.5 to 1 ratio.

  8. - anon - Tuesday, Feb 14, 06 @ 1:57 pm:

Rich. I’m drinking my diet pepsi straight up from now on. On the other hand, maybe these places are just very good at cleaning their toilets.

  9. - Skeeter - Tuesday, Feb 14, 06 @ 3:48 pm:

The sex ed comment was interesting.
Again, we have a plan that would reduce unplanned pregnancies and again we have the allegedly pro-life groups opposing it.
What do these people want? Do they really believe that “just say no” is an effective way to prevent teenagers from becoming pregnant?
