Another YouTube star breaks through

Friday, Nov 3, 2006

Remember Jake? He’s the 14 year old African-American kid from Lincoln Park I told you about who posted videos on YouTube slamming Gov. Rod Blagojevich because his school textbooks were in such bad shape. Some of you know that he has continued to post videos on a regular basis throughout the campaign, most of them in strong support of Republican candidates.

Jake was recently interviewed by Chicago Public Radio. You can listen to the interview by clicking this link. [m4a file] See all of his videos here. Visit his website here.

    and his race matters why?

  2. - Jake's Chicago Politics - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 11:11 am:

The reason he mentions it is because it is very unusual for an African_American to endorse a whole bunch of republican Candidates. Thank you Mr.Miller.

  3. - Wumpus - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 11:19 am:

He can’t vote. Does he also get Mayor Daley confused w/Blago or is that only little african American girls.

  4. - Cartman - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 11:35 am:

He can’t vote, but his parents can.

  5. - The 'Broken Heart' of Rogers Park - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 11:35 am:

Jack CP, shouldn’t you be in class?

  6. - Squideshi - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 11:47 am:

I’m glad to see that independent and alternative media, like Jake’s podcasts, are being noticed. I can say that with complete honestly, even if I do think that he endorsed the wrong candidate for Illinois Governor.

  7. - Guy Fawkes - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 12:08 pm:

Funny how a fourteen year old hasn’t bought into the Blagojevich hype. Surprised Bill hasn’t tried to discredit this young man’s true feelings.

  8. - Bridget Dooley - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 12:17 pm:

I heard this last night in the car! GO JAKE!

While I disagree with Jake on many issues and I don’t support his candidates, I am very impressed with the initiative he has shown to make his voice heard and his deep interest in politics. While other 14 year-old kids are at the mall or hanging out with their friends getting into trouble, Jake is spending his time doing this.

It’s unusual and it should be encouraged. Jake may not have the best command of the issues or candidates, but he’s 14 for pete’s sake! For a 14 year-old, he’s incredibly sharp.

People in this country are woefully apathetic about politics and even voting. That starts at a young age. Kids like Jake have chosen a different path and we should give him credit for it, not drive him away.

Again, GO JAKE! I think you’re terrific.

  9. - JakeCP - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 12:45 pm:

Thank you bridgetdooley i will continue to “go”. as for broken heart first of all everytime you get on me you make me fall out laughing. there is no school today because of professional development day.

  10. - Levois - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 1:17 pm:

If only I had the internet and my blog at 14. That when I was interested in politics. I with Jake the best of luck and hopefully he will go far.

  11. - Angie - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 1:38 pm:

Holy cow, Jake. What a bright 14 year old.

When I was 14, I was at The University of Chicago Lab School prior to moving to suburbia where the better schools were free, but I had zero interest in politics. I think someone needs to sponsor this kid for a nice, cushy high school education at Lab’s U-High, or something. It is expensive, but like I said before, who is that into the world at large that much at age 14? We’ve got adults wandering around in a daze who can’t even name any of the members of the Senate!

Crying shame the kid’s text was such a mess. Bright kids deserve better than that.

  12. - Shelbyville - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 2:22 pm:

The teens have quit using punctuation and caps. It is because they text message all of the time. It doesn’t mean that they don’t know where commas go.

I was next to a 60 yr. old the other day that was trying to text message - he said “where is the question mark?” LOL Since teens don’t need them, to be able to read the message, they don’t bother with them (commas, caps, etc.)

  13. - JakeCP - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 2:35 pm:

Oh I am sorry about those mistakes. I was using my mother’s computer and the shift key doesn’t work that well. Sorry if I “offended” anyone.

  14. - Tessa - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 7:07 pm:

Jake, I, too am proud of you, and you type better than a whole lot of adults who post on here, so don’t worry about offending anyone with a mistake or two. Although I don’t agree with some of your political choices, for a 14 year old, you certainly have a good head on your shoulders and should be proud of yourself (as your parents should be also) for speaking up and speaking out at your age. Taking a stand for what you believe in at any age can be difficult, and you can be a role model for others.

My 13 year old loves politics, as well, but doesn’t do anything near what you do. He just helps mom with campaign stuff.

    Keep up the good work!

  15. - The 'Broken Heart' of Rogers Park - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 7:50 pm:

Next thing you know Jake CP is going to do a You Tube video blaming the governer for his mother’s broken shift key on the keyboard.

  16. - Establishment Republican - Friday, Nov 3, 06 @ 9:48 pm:

Jake is awesome! He is the future of the party.

Blago is being kept up at night wondering how to silence Jake.

  17. - Angie - Saturday, Nov 4, 06 @ 12:18 am:

No, Shelbyville. I meant that the kid’s textBOOK was a mess. Just realized everyone took that out of the actual context that I meant it in.

He was running videos about the sorry state of his school textbooks, and Rich put a clip up on Cap Fax about that. That’s the “text” I meant. Sorry Jake. You’re waaaaaay literate, my friend.

  18. - Angie (post-script) - Saturday, Nov 4, 06 @ 12:25 am:

And it was my fault, by the way, for not checking my post for absolute reader clarity. I had a midterm last week, and my brain is fried. Did well on it, though (that’s what matters).;-)

  19. - Public School Graduate - Sunday, Nov 5, 06 @ 11:34 am:

Shouldn’t he complain to Arnie Duncan?

  20. - JakeCP - Sunday, Nov 5, 06 @ 1:16 pm:

Public School Graduate- I do hold Arnie duncan accountable as well for the school budget. however Blago kept braggin abou thow he was going to improve the public school systems. My Social studies book is from 1994 shame shame shame. we haven’t had a good administartion since Edgar.

  21. - The 'Broken Heart' of Rogers Park - Monday, Nov 6, 06 @ 11:08 am:

Jake CP said…..>“we haven’t had a good administartion since Edgar.”

And how old were you then, 3?

  22. - JakeCP - Monday, Nov 6, 06 @ 11:20 pm:

LOL no 2 but I am just saying that since that was when Edgar was in office. Ryan didn’t improve The Public School System in Illinois and neither did Blago.
