The Sun-Time manaagment, from its publisher on down, needs to take responsibility for its role in making the total fiasco that is the Toddler Stroger administration possible; the endorsement the Sun-Times made of Toddler’s candidacy last fall. When those resposponsible for that mistake, which gave Toddler just enough cover of legitimacy to squeak through to victory and the current raid of the public trough, are willing to own up to it and make amends (a resignation by the publisher would be a good start), then and only then will the Sun-Times’ comments made against Toddler’s excesses hold any legitimacy.

Very good article by the Trib on funding for community based agencies for people with developmental disabilities. Same issues exist for community programs for people with mental illnesses. Illinois ranks about 43/50 in paying for community DD services because of low funding, but is 9/50 for state DD institutions. Schools cover 12 years of Special Ed, but these agencies do the next 35-60 years of these peoples lives helping them live independently. Inflation has wacked funding by 10% in the last several years. Min wage, electric dereg, gas, and health insurance are huge costs and so far the state has not stepped up to pay costs. They do make sure the institutions are taken care of at 3-4 times the cost per person. People working in this field often make more at fastfood and other service jobs.
