And the winners are…

Monday, Oct 22, 2007

I decided to pick the top three vote-getters in our “Illinois Pledge of allegiance” contest. I’ll be designing t-shirts soon. Any help would be appreciated.

The winners need to contact me so I can send their free shirts to them. Here they are…

* “The Curmudgeon”

I pledge allegiance to Illinoize
To the good old girls and the good old boys
Who run this State for a favored few,
And to their family members
Who will succeed them:
I pledge my wallet and my vote,
I pledge my car, I pledge my boat,
I pledge the Cubs’ famed Billy Goat.
I pledge to pay and pay and then
I pledge to pay and pay again.

* “train111″

I pledge allegiance to the Illinois flag
and to the politicians that top dollar can buy
To the corruption for which it stands
One cesspool
in the heartland
With favors and payouts for the few.

* “Poli-Sci Geek”

I pledge allegiance,
to the flag of the great state of illinois,
cuz some guy sent me,
to work this ward,
for some guy I don’t know,
so I might, someday, get a job.

    The Curmudgeon

  2. - Rich Miller - Monday, Oct 22, 07 @ 4:42 pm:

Voting is closed. Time to congratulate the winners.

  3. - fedup dem - Monday, Oct 22, 07 @ 4:43 pm:

    Consider them congratulated!

  4. - The Curmudgeon - Monday, Oct 22, 07 @ 5:23 pm:

    Thanks!

  5. - Rich Miller - Monday, Oct 22, 07 @ 5:36 pm:

I figured that since this is Illinois, where people supposedly can vote “often,” then we ought to have more than one pledge.

  6. - Snidely Whiplash - Monday, Oct 22, 07 @ 5:51 pm:

    I pledge allegiance
    To the land of graft
    I wish I had a boat person’s raft
They tax us out of house and home
    Our pockets never left alone
    To employ someone’s kid
    So sleepy and lax
I pledge to keep on paying tax

  7. - Levois - Monday, Oct 22, 07 @ 6:04 pm:

    Congrats and I misread.

  8. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Oct 22, 07 @ 6:29 pm:

Not to stir the stuff, Rich, but I believe the “P-word” has been committed here today in the last hour.
I think you will have to convene a special committee of bloggers to review the matters and issue you a report. Just speaking for AA, we would be happy to work for booze and eats.

  9. - so-called "Austin Mayor" - Monday, Oct 22, 07 @ 6:35 pm:

I would like to take this time to publicly congratulate the winners and offer them my public support.

And if anyone who would like to join me in a private, bitter whisper campaign to undermine the winners, I’ll be in the bar.

    – SCAM

  10. - Thunder 2 - Monday, Oct 22, 07 @ 7:53 pm:

To bad closed, Snidely Whiplash, I much prefer yours above all the others.

  11. - Little Egypt - Monday, Oct 22, 07 @ 10:40 pm:

How about a hazing ritual whereby Rod, Emil, Mike and all of their immediate staff must to wear these t-shirts for a week, without removing them for any event, function or meeting. The shirts with letting on the outside must be clearly visible at all times. Oh, I forgot to include all senators and reps.

    I need to proofread better.

It is good to see that my votes counted. I feel so civic minded.
