* State worker who leaked report questioned by FBI

* In These Times: Hounding the Bush dogs- the candidates who are taking on conservative democrats

Lipinski’s backers contend that his voting record aligns with his district’s socially conservative residents. But evidence suggests the district is no longer the Reagan-Democrat hotbed of his father’s time. John Kerry won 59 percent of the vote in 2004, and an influx of Latinos, who now make up 20 percent of the district’s population, has further solidified the seat as a Democratic stronghold. “It’s a lot more progressive than people realize,” says Larry Handlin, who has been blogging about Illinois politics at ArchPundit since 2002.

* Cook Co. Recorder of Deeds employees sought holidays cash tips?

A lump of coal wasn’t going to cut it for a clerk in the Cook County recorder of deeds office who hung photocopies of $1 bills above Christmas stockings next to cashier stations in what looked like a solicitation for tips.

The eight burgundy stockings, hung from green garland and emblazoned with the words “Joy” and “Peace,” gave the appearance the cashiers were seeking a little holiday appreciation.

* Outsider top choice for Chicago police superintendent position

The guy is not a cop and he’s not African American.

Word is J.P. “Jody” Weis, the special agent in charge of the FBI field office in Philadelphia, may be Chicago’s next top cop.

I love the editorial on preventing diversion of Lake Michigan. Currently, the only significant diversion of Great Lakes water is the Chicago Diversion! In no other state or province would the Suburbs be allowed to drink Great Lakes water (at least not without a big fight and promising to send it back to the lake).

Anyone interested should read the recently published “Great Lakes Water Wars.” Illinois signed the recent agreement because it protects Chicago’s right to divert while cutting off all others.

    How fascinating.

Does Mayor Daley think Chicago needs a strong counterterrorism effort.

Certainly takes attention away from those pesky high-crime neighborhoods he has done nothing to fix and can’t seem to gentrify.

  3. - Gish - Thursday, Nov 29, 07 @ 9:56 am:

The article reads ‘Weis, a 22-year veteran of the FBI, is a specialist in terrorism, narcotics and violent crime.’

Unless you are suggesting that ‘those pesky high-crime neighborhoods he has done nothing to fix and can’t seem to gentrify’ do not have problems with narcotics and violent crime.

Clout Corner: Mole’s dumper gets $55 million city deal

“Mayor Daley’s Department of Streets and Sanitation has awarded a five-year, $55 million contract to Lindahl Brothers Inc. for “emergency rental of heavy-duty snow equipment with operators.”

Lindahl was one of the companies that used an illegal dump that FBI mole John Christopher created at Roosevelt and Kostner. The seven-story pile of debris came to be known as Mount Henry, in memory of the late Ald. William C. Henry, who was accused of taking bribes to look the other way about the illegal dumping.”

  5. - Independent - Thursday, Nov 29, 07 @ 4:50 pm:

I’m often critical of Sneed but she got this scoop right and it appears original, too.

I like Daley’s move picking an outsider provided that Weis is given authority to reform the process of dealing with rogue cops. If Daley attempts to undermine him as he has with IG Hoffman then little will change and taxpayers will be on the hook for many more settlements.
