Watch the Lauzen-Oberweis debate tonight, right here
Tuesday, Jan 15, 2008 - Posted by Rich Miller At seven o’clock tonight, CBS 2 will broadcast a live debate (Internet-only) between Jim Oberweis and Chris Lauzen, the two Republican candidates for the open 14th Congressional District seat. Those two guys really don’t like each other, so this should be a fun one.

Wow the writers strike really IS hurting CBS.
- Rich Miller - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 4:39 pm:
lol
- Rich Miller - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 4:45 pm:
Then again, this could be better than watching pro wrestling. All the meanness and over the top insults without being fixed!
- Anon - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 4:55 pm:
“without being fixed”
Oh Kay, now who’s being naive?
- Kiyoshi Martinez - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 4:58 pm:
Rich: will this be archived online for later viewing? CBS is usually good about that sort of thing, but it’d be nice to know.
- DodgeCBS - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 5:01 pm:
Yes. Video will be archived and should be available later tonight. Probably by 10 p.m.

Anon may have a point. Two candidates, with nearly identical ideological viewpoints, feel the need to distinguish themselves by fighting and slinging mud, whether real or “staged”. They don’t have a long history of interaction.
OTOH, if you could tape Dallas Ingemunson and Chris Lauzen in a room together holding a “conversation”, that would definitely be real.

Off topic, but still interesting news, Cellini and co are giving up on the Renaissance:

Six degrees- have seen that - actually frightened me. Was glad for the Capitol Police nearby…….
- Rich Miller - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 6:16 pm:
leigh! Where’ve you been?
- leigh - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 6:57 pm:
Third party in room had Capital Police protection.
- oneman - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 7:20 pm:
Thoughts on the opening statements?
- Leigh - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 7:29 pm:
Is Chris seriously trying to appear innocent of mudslinging, please.
- Levois - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 7:49 pm:
Well it’s contentious but not nasty yet.
- Leigh - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 8:01 pm:
Still don’t like either. Same shoes for 20 years, ugh.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 8:02 pm:
I’m not sure that spending borrowed money instead of your own money was a good message to send re: supporting your own campaign, especially as Lauzen didn’t seem to correct Oberweis’ assertion that Lauzen does have money. Odd statement to make.
- Trafficmatt - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 8:45 pm:
Was it just me, or did it appear that Chris had a script answer for every single question?? Not exceptionally effective. How about a heart felt answer to questions.
- Anon - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 10:25 pm:
Sheesh… I thought Oberweis came off as a bit disgruntled. Policy-wise, I thought they each scored some points along the way. But starting and ending with blaring negative attacks kinda turned me off. Oberweis should have started (or ended) with at least some discussion of policy issues.
I think it would be hard for oberweis to claim the high road from here on out… Lauzen even appeared apoligetic for the dead cow ad.
I hope I get to see these guys again.
- Conflict of Interest - Tuesday, Jan 15, 08 @ 11:55 pm:
hey traffic matt,
Just because you want some engineering consulting cash, you should not bash Lauzen in favor of Denny’s lapdog that is backing the Prairie Parkway

I USED to be a consultant. Now, I’m just a guy that rides the roadway. Thanks for thinking of me, though.

The cite you put on the Cellini Renaissance article is a small police blotter item.
Better cite:

I hope this means that Cellini can not turn around and bid on it under a bogus name.
Maybe Jim Edgar will buy it for him out of his campaign fund.
