* This has to be one of most hilarious things I’ve read in a very long time.

From the publisher’s description of Rod Blagojevich’s new book over at Amazon

Product Description

THE GOVERNOR provides the most comprehensive look to date at the life of a twice-elected public official in the notoriously complicated world of Illinois politics. We take a tour through the segregated neighborhoods of Chicago, a city of great ethnic diversity, and see firsthand how those divides can evolve into cabals that rival anything found on the national political scene.

We follow the governor as he is awakened early one morning – his young daughter sleeping peacefully beside him – and unceremoniously arrested by FBI agents without knowing the charges being brought against him. We see the harsh glare of the spotlight, the media whirlwind already staking out his home and family, rushing to judgment before even the governor himself knew what crimes he’d been accused of committing. We follow him through the maze of political conspiracies that threaten to unseat and impeach the governor of the fifth largest state in the U.S. – forces brought to light by the ambition of an attorney general and the greed of her Democratic State Party Chairman father – as well as the zeal of a federal prosecutor and the manipulations of a disloyal lieutenant governor.

The behind-the-scenes workings to fill the Senate seat vacated by the most popular President-elect in decades becomes something much more incendiary when wiretapped conversations are used by authorities to commit the arrest. But, as the governor soon learns, those tapes are not allowed to be played at his impeachment hearings in the House or Senate. What is on those tapes? And why will the prosecution not let them be heard if they were the primary factor in initiating the arrest that started this political scandal in the first place?

Quoting from sources as diverse as Jim Wallis’ God’s Politics to Aeschylus , Shakespeare to The Purpose Driven Life, THE GOVERNOR provides not just an inside look at politics on a state and national level but a treatise on the proper place of government in the everyday lives of its people.

It is a mandate for healthcare reform, which the governor feels is the civil rights issue of our lifetime. It is a clarion cry, remarkably, against cynicism in modern governing and a return to a more thoughtful and informed sense of government that views its state budgets as “moral documents.” It is a lament against the current state of the political landscape, one that too often is wracked by scandal and interwoven with a media-driven culture obsessed with scandal and snap judgments.

And it is a proclamation that one man will not be silenced, that his side of the story must be heard and that the fight for American liberties and freedom must sometimes occur within its own borders.

What a freaking crock.

…Adding… It gets even better

The book, according to an advertisement in The New York Times Book Review on Sunday, “pulls the curtain back on the shadowed world of politics and exposes the conspiracies and transgressions that so often compromise the basic tenet of American life: with liberty and justice for all. It is a proclamation that the governor’s side of the story must be heard. And that the fight for American liberties and freedom must sometimes occur within its own borders.”

An image of the book’s jacket in that ad states: “At last, the truth behind the political scandal that continues to rock the nation.”

The truth from Rod Blagojevich? Really? This I gotta see.

…Adding more… Ranking…

On the cover of the Audiobook, it says it’s read by him. You think it’s because his ego wouldn’t let anyone else read his story or because nobody else could read it without cracking up?

Quoting George Castanza: It’s not a lie if you believe it.

    I’m sure Rod believes it!

  12. - Downstate weed chewing hick - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 3:39 pm:

Im not that old, and the heart of the real civil rights movement came during that time. That quote, even if it were otherwise true, doesnt even make temporal sense. But that aside, isnt it likely that Blago knows of some actual skeletons of his rivals, or at least actual enough for the press and political opponents to jump on? This could get really really nasty in a hurry.

  13. - OMG - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 3:39 pm:

Does it really say “with his young daughter sleeping peacefully beside him” ? Is that supposed to evoke sympathy or images of Neverland?

@badwolf Gotta be the laughter. Good call.

Rich, will you please title *your* book about the Blagojevich administration, “Gah hahahahaha. Ha.”?

  15. - Downstate weed chewing hick - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 3:42 pm:

Forget the book. For 5 bucks more you can get it on audio read by Rod himself. To really appreciate the insanity, you have to hear it from his lips.

===It is a clarion cry, remarkably, against cynicism in modern governing and a return to a more thoughtful and informed sense of government that views its state budgets as “moral documents.”===

OK, I think the word “cry” is correct, but everything else in this sentence is utter nonsense to those of us who know him and watched him operate for the last decade. Rod was the personification of cynicism. Still is.

  17. - Rich Miller - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 3:43 pm:

===isnt it likely that Blago knows of some actual skeletons of his rivals, or at least actual enough for the press and political opponents to jump on?===

Call me crazy, but I doubt that MJM shared much with RRB or did any crooked deals with the guy.

I’m sure we’ll see lots of conspiracy theories, however. Whether any of them are even close to being sane doesn’t look all that promising, judging by the PR so far.

  18. - tanman - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 3:44 pm:

I’ve determined that I won’t buy the book. But I think I’ll borrow it from the library for laughs…my only question: will it be shelved next to Jeff Foxworthy or Stephen King?

  19. - Rich Miller - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 3:45 pm:

…Adding… It’s more likely that Rod knows about skeletons of his friends and close allies. We’ll see how far he goes with them.

  20. - Ghost - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 3:45 pm:

it sounds like Blago thought LMad would be running for Gov when he put this together…. so much for the vast conspiracy by the ambitous AG, to stay in the AG’s office….

I wonder how many copies Bill will purchase. They need an audio version read by James Earl Jones.

  21. - train111 - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 3:50 pm:

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Yeah, but that could take much longer than reading the book yourself. Odds are he won’t be able to stick to the ’story’ and will sidetrack off every other page or so with one of his favorite quotes and why or one of his goofy ‘this reminds me of…’. Wonder how many historical persons he compares himself to in this?

Bambeneks’ book is ranked #1,650,009, so Rod’s book is already ahead in sales.

We may find his book funny, but every coppy sold lets him laugh all the way to the bank.

I wonder how many copies the US attorney has purchased.

  45. - Rich Miller - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 4:21 pm:

OneMan, you forgot at least one tag…

    Moron.

    I added it.

  46. - Louis Howe - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 4:22 pm:

It’s really instructive to look at Amazon’s “Customer who bought related items” for Rod’s new book….So what do inquiring Blago minds read???….there’s two Natalie Wood bio books, then “Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson” but the best one is “The Zookeeper’s Wife: A War Story”….Since the early buys are mostly “Friends and Family,” what an interesting selection of reading material…..

  47. - OneMan - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 4:23 pm:

“The Governor”? Not to nitpick but couldn’t he or his publisher have come up with a snappier title than that? I know Cap Fax readers could (and have) come up with snappier titles….

Really if they wanted to make money, they should have signed Vrodlyak to do the audio version. A true collector’s item that would bring top price among us snarkers. But let’s work on the video game version … even more fun.

  64. - tanman - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 5:13 pm:

Rich, I came to that conclusion when he refused to move into the Executive Mansion. :P

Really just amazing. Suggesting that Pat Quinn was somehow “disloyal” to the psychopath Rod is so ridiculous as to make it reasonable to suggest that of the four allegations about Lisa, MJM, the U.S. Attorney and Gov. Quinn, each successive slander seems somehow more outrageous than the last.

  91. - Bookworm - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 8:38 pm:

It seems to me that few people in Illinois will want to read this book, except possibly for its “entertainment” value only. However, there are about 290 million people in 49 other states to whom this story may still be somewhat new and they may end up generating most of the sales.

If Blago attempts to include some dirt on Obama or any of his associates, you can bet the far right wing crowd will seize upon this story as further “proof” that Obama is just another corrupt Chicago pol and that Blago was forced out of office to “protect” him. (And I say that as a conservative myself, who didn’t vote for Obama, but NOT because of his middle name, alleged place of birth, or any supposed connection to Blago.)

How much you wanna bet that when the book comes out, he ends up appearing on the same talk shows with Sarah Palin? That oughta be fun!

    My Greatest Love Of All

I believe the children are our are future
Teach them well and let them vote for me
Show them all the beauty I possess inside
Give them this book of pride, it can’t be easier
Let the pundit’s laughter remind us how I used to be

    Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
Even The Cubs can’t fulfill my needs
Lunacy is a lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me

    Chorus:
I decided long ago, never to walk in Madigan’s shadows
So I failed, and was impeached
At least I always over reached
No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity

Because the greatest love of all
    Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
    Inside of me
    The greatest love of all
    Is easy to achieve
    Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all
I believed I could deal with Burris
A Trailblazer that would lead the way
An empty mausoleum with nothing inside
He’d listen to me and make it easier
I’d be a union president in Washington DC

    Chorus
And if by chance, you read my book
You see a new place I’m living at
    Working as a prison cook
All because Madigan is a rat!

You know darn good and well that song will be appearing on all future editions of this audiobook, and you should get some money from Blago for it!! Question is: will Rod sign it (probably), or will he try to get Whitney Houston to do it for him in an attempt to sway black jurors?

  95. - Lynn S - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 10:18 pm:

oops, I meant sing, not sign!!

  96. - Little Egypt - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 10:20 pm:

I can see that after spending a week in the Canadian Rockies, I haven’t missed one single thing going on in Illinois.

  97. - Waiting for the Lifetime movie version - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 10:44 pm:

In my mind, I picture a remake of that classic episode of “The Twilight Zone”, the one with Burgess Meredith alone surviving a nuclear armageddon, but presented with, finally, all the books he ever wanted to read, enough for a lifetime… only in this version, it’s not his reading glasses that break, it turns out the only books to survive along with him… are copies of Rod’s Magnum Dopus.

“It’s not fair!!! It’s NOT FAIR!!!!”

  98. - Gregor - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 10:45 pm:

Nice photoshop job on his sunken, beedy little weasel eyes… Apparently, Rod has photoshopped himself an alternate reality.

  99. - Vote Quimby! - Monday, Jul 27, 09 @ 11:32 pm:

I don’t think we’ll be seeing him on Letterman again.

  100. - Bookworm - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 12:12 am:

“Will it be shelved next to Jeff Foxworthy or Stephen King?”

I vote for the latter… preferably, next to copies of “The Dead Zone,” since Blago does IMHO bear a strong resemblance to Greg Stillson, the deranged politician (played by Martin Sheen in the movie).

  101. - Parallel Universe - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 1:23 am:

Exactly how many delusional people are there??? Apparently Rod and Patti have quite the ability to find people willing to swallow their swill of lies and self-deceit.

The picture looks a whole lot like the actor who did Rod Blagojevich, Superstar….

  102. - Bat country - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 7:51 am:

Was this book ghost-written by Hunter Thompson ?

  103. - South of I-80 - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 7:53 am:

Did the author and lead actor of The Room (the best worst movie ever)buy the movie rights?

  104. - Nero - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 8:31 am:

Sounds like a work of “literary art”… should be in every university political science classroom across our great land (in the Delusional Politician section)!!

  105. - Ted Kord - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 8:33 am:

Was it ghost written by Dan Brown?

  106. - CircularFiringSquad - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 8:50 am:

    Capt fax
Sorry I cannot get to Reddbyrd’s sociopath diagnosis but this really ices that cake.
Hopefully you will be able to breeak down the audio version with a laugh track and the loser buzzer when he really gets into the clouds.

  107. - Master Plan - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 8:54 am:

Should be titled “Governator How to Destroy a State”

  108. - Secret Square - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 8:56 am:

“Ghost” written by Hunter Thompson? lol

  109. - Inish - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 8:56 am:

Truly- who outside of Illinois cares???

  110. - Masters Phil - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 9:29 am:

Rich, as some have already voiced an opinion, a perfect Question of the Day, who plays Rod in the movie version? Maybe go ahead and cast Patti, MJM and Mr. Mell as well.

  111. - vole - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 9:34 am:

You can’t take the jungle out of Rod. The HORROR! The HORROR! Get me out of here!

  112. - Anon - Tuesday, Jul 28, 09 @ 10:17 am:

==“Ghost” written by Hunter Thompson? lol ==
