Question of the day

Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009

* As I’ve already told subscribers, Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. has filed petitions to challenge former Senate President Emil Jones for Jones’ 2nd Democratic State Central Committeeman’s seat. Considering how the two men despise each other, this could be a fun campaign.

In honor of this battle, let’s have a caption contest featuring the congressman, his father and former Sen. Jones, shall we?

Keep in mind that, as always, racist comments will result in severe beatings and lifetime banishments. The vast, overwhelming majority of you are good people, but some jokers always want to use posts like this to strut their despicability. Don’t do it.

“Congressman Jackson, Former President Emil Jones and Rev. Jackson, share a chuckle after realizing the reaction this picture will get on Capitol Fax.”

Rich I consistently applaud you for reminding folks that “racist comments will result in severe beatings,” in a preemptive attempt to keep the conversation civil, HOWEVER maybe a question of the day should be:

Will we in the CapFax community ever see the day when Rich can have a caption contest/question of the day post that involves people of color and NOT have to warn posters about racism?

I appreciate all that you do and I appreciate the fact that your standards regarding racist comments put the standards of other media websites to SHAME. Maybe we need to have a discussion about why folks feel the need to make racist comments about some of your content.

Again, thanks for being proactive in keeping the comments civil.

In case Emil Jones missed it:

As Blagojevich was appointing Illinois’ next U.S. senator, businessmen with ties to both the governor and U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. discussed raising at least $1 million for Blagojevich’s campaign as a way to encourage him to pick Jackson for the job.

According to published news reports “Blagojevich and the congressman met to discuss the Senate seat on Monday, one day before federal prosecutors arrested Blagojevich and charged him with trying to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama. As part of the charges, prosecutors alleged that Blagojevich was considering awarding the seat to a politician identified as “Senate Candidate 5″ because emissaries for that candidate were promising to raise as much as $1.5 million for Blagojevich’s campaign fund.”

The Tribune later identified Jesse Jackson Jr. as “Senate Candidate 5.”
