I know it’s not really a happy Christmas song, but I love Elvis’s version of Blue Christmas.

  2. - Loop Lady - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 1:39 pm:

The Christmas Song sung only by Nat King Cole…

  3. - MrJM - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 1:40 pm:

I’m a big fan of “Dark Christmas” by the Dex Romweber Duo.

The mp3 is available as a FREE and LEGAL download from the Bloodshot Records website: http://DarkChristmas.notlong.com

Not a Christmas song but it is the same season. Adam Sandler Chanukah

  6. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 1:59 pm:

I put my request in yesterday, and it stands. I like all of the traditional Christmas/holiday tunes, it’s the soundtrack of the season.

One major exception though, and Rich, I beg you to resist the urge: Bob Dylan’s Little Drummer Boy. It sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks on qualludes. As Jose would say, “no es bueno.”

  7. - Barton Lorimor - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 2:07 pm:

Call me old fashioned, but I am still a fan of the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. If I had to pick one track, I’d say “Christmas Time is Here.”

Btw, my name is Barton. I am in the process of moving to Springfield for the next six months to intern at Capitol Fax. I look forward to meeting everyone after the holidays.

Like a couple other The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) sung ONLY by Nat King Cole. Why in the world would anyone try to do it any better?

  17. - Pale Rider - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 2:55 pm:

    Silent Night by Stevie Nicks

  18. - Middle of the Road - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 3:03 pm:

The great jazz version of The Christmas Song by Dexter Gordon–pure bliss.

  19. - dupage dan - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 3:13 pm:

White Christmas by Irving Berlin. The 1st song I learned on my trumpet in 4th grade. One of my all time favorite holiday movies as well.

  20. - You Go Boy - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 3:16 pm:

“All I want for Christmas is You” sung by Lisa Layne….superb.

  21. - hawksfan - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 3:18 pm:

the eagles-please come home for christmas.

  22. - soccermom - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 3:18 pm:

Love the Charlie Brown soundtrack. And the “Razzleberry Dressing” song from the Magoo Christmas Carol. And Burl Ives singing “Silver and Gold” from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Ya know, maybe Mother was right when she said I watched too much tv….

  23. - Jaded - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 3:59 pm:

Trying not to choose some of my favorites that have already been taken I will vote for “White Christmas” by the Drifters, and “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms from the first Lethal Weapon.

  24. - CircularFiringSquad - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 4:56 pm:

It might be too scary for the anti-Thomson fraidy cats but Jimi Hendrix silent night smokes.

  25. - paddyrollingstone - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 5:10 pm:

Fairytale of New York - “It was Christmas Eve, babe, in the drunk tank . . .”

  26. - kimsch - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 5:44 pm:

O Holy Night, followed by Angels We Have Heard on High and Mary, Did You Know.

  27. - T.J. - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 7:43 pm:

Best ever is either “The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole or his version of “O Holy Night.”

Worst ever is “Last Xmas” by anybody.

  28. - Rambler - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 8:03 pm:

I like most all the traditional songs depending on the occasion, but Adeste Fideles is very moving. On the flip side, Feliz Navidad may be the worst (sorry).

  29. - Shane Macgowan's AA sponsor - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 9:25 pm:

““It was Christmas Eve, babe, in the drunk tank . . .” ”

‘an old man said to me, won’t see another one…
and then ‘e sang a song, THE RARE OLD MOUNTAIN DEW!
    I turned my face away.
    And dreamed about…you.’

    (Look ma, no Google!)

  30. - Shane Macgowan's AA sponsor - Tuesday, Dec 15, 09 @ 9:27 pm:

This is my favorite from the Kinks:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjaPXihbORk

Followed by a close 2nd one from the Ramones:

  31. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Dec 16, 09 @ 8:33 am:

Another vote for Nat King Cole. Every time I hear the Christmas song, I have a Proustian rush of memories of Decembers past, and all the loved ones who have gone home.

  32. - Dead Head - Wednesday, Dec 16, 09 @ 8:57 am:

Another Christmas Song by Stephen Colbert

  33. - smarty pants - Wednesday, Dec 16, 09 @ 9:23 am:

The best ever is Frank Sinatra’s “Jingle Bells”. Shake a martini and swing with Frank.
