    I wished one of the panleists had aske Quinn what he meant by Hynes calling him names. I watched and listened as they spoke and I didn’t hear any namecalling from Hynes during the debate directed at Quinn.

    Quinn is confusing criticism with name-calling and at his age he should know that there is a WORLD of difference between the two.

    Quinn came across as very whiney in tone/pitch and words. Hynes’s tone was dry and mostly anti-climatic, but to hear a 61-year-old man whinning got on my nerves! I don’t want four-eight more years of that.

    Quinn’s cemetary task force absolved the comptroller’s office of wrongdoing. Would it have been more believable to Quinn had one of the panelsits said it, rather than hynes. Hynes did not answer on the burial trust fund, and he should have—he should have answered what his office has been answering for the past several years.

    Hynes is still way too stiff in presentation and delivery. I’m grateful that he isn’t whiney, though.

    Wash, Rinse, and Repeat.

    I’m still supporting Hynes, but that was a major disappointment of a “debate”.

    I did find it amusing how Quinn accused Hynes of calling him names on a few occasions while referring to him as a “back stabber”. Did Hynes actually use a derogatory name at any point? Did Quinn call him an “ankle biter” again? LOL

    The one thing I noticed throughout the whole back and forth bla bla bla was that Dan looked like a healthy young man (even though I guess he’s 40+). Quinn looked like a guy who could use a good run, or at least a bit of exercise. Quinn was quick to anger and seemed a little uncomfortable. Dan seemed very comfortable with himself. This probably won’t play in the election, but just something I noticed.

    Just got done watching the tape of the debate. If anyone appeared uncomfortable, it was Dan. Toward the end, “One Trick Pony” Dan was running out of ideas on how to avoid his office’s errors in regard to the cemetery scandals. He did, however, continue spouting his only soundbite: How Quinn was responsible for releasing prisoners early (albeit only 37 days earlier than they would have been otherwise).

    I’m down on Quinn now, but Hynes does not do a thing for me as the alternative. These guys have not engaged my aspirations or enthusiasm with any kind of vision, and their schoolyard squabbling only weakens them for the republican challenger.

    Agree that it was a bloodbath. Basically it was a lot of Hynes bashing the Governor on prisoners and the Governor bashing Hynes on Burr Oak and the Funeral Trust Fund Losses. I thought the Governor missed an opportunity to bash Hynes more on Pension Reform, because Hynes still favors the status-quo with pensions. The Governor could have hit him more on being against the recall amendment too. Hynes seemed to bring up prisoner release every time he spoke. Quinn also called Hynes tax increase through constitutional amendment a “fantasy plan.” The whole thing was uncomfortable to watch. Quinn took a lot of shots and served a lot back. The gloves are now definitely off.

    I saw the debate, straming at 7 PM, on Channel 7 at 11:05. I’m a partisan for Hynes and believed he won; but it wasn’t a knockout, though the remaining image is 1700 criminals on the street on early release.

    To switrch subjects and be slightly original, I think that primaries in gubernatorial years should be held in early May; in presidential years early enough to have an impact. But I think its great that in a democracy people do get interested in the last two weeks, and on election day a significant number actually participate.

    Yesterday’s results in Massachusetts makes it clear to me that the Republicans have an edge in Illinois state wide this November and that Quinn and Giannoulias are unelectable in November.

    Furthermore, if Preckwinkle isn’t nominated for President of the County Board, Hynes will have a tough time getting elected, and so will Hoffman. If Cheryle Jackson is the nominee for the Senate I don’t think she can win, but she helps Hynes.
    It’s all rather complicated. I’ll be the first to say I don’t understand it all, which makes watching it more fun.
