I don’t think Hynes delivered a knockout blow at this meeting. Regardless of who wins, the Republicans got some great ad footage.

What the Democrats have failed to do for the past several years is be honest with Illinoisans regarding the people they elected and turned out to be creeps and crooks. Then they didn’t do enough to demonstrate that they cleaned up their act.

Historically, there are two ways for a party to restore faith with voters - go into exile until the opposition crashes and burns, or admit errors and reform itself with new ethical standards.

The Illinois Democratic Party has failed to do either.

So this fight is a good thing for Democrats. We are not fooling anyone by pretending. Voters want incumbants out of office. They want the best candidates to win, and want to see a fight.

This is how politics cleans itself up.

After what Blagojevich and Burris, Ryan and Fawell have put Illinoisans through, we just might see some good coming out of this sooner than later.

VMan, Fawell was a Democrat? That’s a shock to his family.

In the opening Q&A, you have to love Hynes’s comment about Quinn’s negative ads, “He’s run millions of dollars in negative ads against me as well. You just don’t see me whining about it.”

    Oooh! Quinn brought props!

I don’t always agree with him, but Rhodes saw the debate the same way I saw it:

There was a point last night that I expected Quinn to take ball bearings from his pocket and talk about disloyal officers and missing strawberries. He looked rattled, sounded paranoid and whined throughout the debate.

Hynes missed some easy shots, but took the high road at the end. I think it was all Hynes from the moment the Governor mentioned the room in his heart for three baseball teams. Hynes really shined with his answers to the last several questions.

LOL! Great movie, one of Bogie’s best performances. Haven’t see it in a while. Gotta put it in my Netflix queue.

what is sneed talking about that Gov. Quinn “engineered” the ford 1200 jobs project?

    http://www.suntimes.com/business/2011300,CST-NWS-FORD26.article

  9. - Will County Woman - Tuesday, Jan 26, 10 @ 11:52 am:

The Dome was a lot more helpful in its reporting. Quinn signed EDGE into law. On the blog someone posted something about George Ryan being the architecht, for lack of a better word, on tax credits of this kind for businesses Illinois.

  10. - Anon - Tuesday, Jan 26, 10 @ 12:29 pm:

WCW — The EDGE credit was enacted under Ryan. Public Act 91-476. It was tweaked for about the 20th time this past fall in Public Acts 96-834 and 96-836.

    Thank you for the clarification.

    now…
I guess Sneed was just trying to help PQ out, she was very nice to him last year so far as her “reporting” went.
I’m not sure how it works, but her article appeared in the business section, of the online version at least, I’m not sure why an editor of some sort would’ve allowed what sneed included.

  12. - Paul S. - Tuesday, Jan 26, 10 @ 2:07 pm:

I watched the debate again today, and it does seem like Quinn is whining the whole time and taking things too personally. Hynes came out as the professional. I like Hynes’ quips about “lost his bearings”, etc. a classy way to say a negative thing.

  13. - Will County Woman - Tuesday, Jan 26, 10 @ 2:27 pm:

I still haven’t watched the debate and don’t plan too. I’ve read enough comments on this blog and elsewhere on the internet to get the idea how things went. I saw them debate twice last week, and I am disappointed to read from comments and columinsts that Quinn reverted to type lastnight again. Maybe if he hadn’t been so busy trying to incite a race-riot and scare black people to death over the weekend he could have used the weekend to improve his debate style.

The rockford register endoresment (of Hynes) was spot-on.

One suntimes commenter, I think in response to mark brown’s column, wrote that quinn plays the victim card to gin up sympathy. It’s true he does.

I don’t know what’s worse the fact that the Quinn camp hynes mishandled its response to the harold washington ad in the first place or that it continues to? I don’t know what the HW liked Quinn in 1982 defense was supposed to do to counter HW’s negative assessment in 1987. Whomever on the Quinn camp came up with that ought to be ashamed. Did he or she think no one would notice the five year time span, and be able to put it into context ?

  14. - Will County Woman - Tuesday, Jan 26, 10 @ 3:44 pm:

The way that Quinn blames Hynes for the Burr Oak situation, Quinn would pitch a fit if he was blamed for IDPH’s failure to rid nursing homes of felons.

Despite the Tribune investigation into nursing home saftey issues, the IDPH apparently hasn’t been doing anything to ensure that nursing homes have been complying with criminal background checks. Why did it take lisa madigan (tom dart and federal law enforcment agencies) to crack down and catch what IDPH hasn’t? The law is clear that IDPH has oversight responsibility here.
