    That’s a tough ad. What’s the buy?

  2. - Louis Howe - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 1:42 pm:

A + Excellent message…”Quinn’s had his chance…and things have gone from bad to worse…we need a clean break..” these messages will resonate with voters because, for the most part, they’re true. Quinn never established that he was capable of managing state government. I don’t see how Quinn makes Brady into such a bad character that voters will vote to continue with Quinn’s incompetent management.

  3. - eastsider - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 1:42 pm:

Very well done. They were able to get in a nice checklist of very bad negatives on Quinn. The voice-over was nice, too.

This election is really going to get bloody over the next 8 weeks.

  4. - BIG R.PH. - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 1:46 pm:

    Right on! Right on!

    Keep up the heat Bill!

  5. - Red Ranger - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 1:47 pm:

Pretty Good. Solid B effort. In terms of the issues that people are thinking about this fall, I think this is spot on.

  6. - Phineas J. Whoopee - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 1:48 pm:

These are end game ads that would be absolutely unbeatable if they came from anybody but Brady. By the time Quinn and Brady are finished with each other Cohen and the green guy will have piles of votes.

  7. - A.B. - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 1:49 pm:

Those are a terrific counter to Quinn’s negative ads. Well done by the Brady campaign and mixing this with his positive ads will be fruitful.

  8. - Vole - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 1:55 pm:

    Effective for the receptive.

But Bill, please, did Quinn put your home construction and realty businesses in the crapper too?

Don’t forget Bill, people will expect the same of you. You set yourself up for a single term with these ads if you don’t straighten up and abandon your notions of fixing this mess with 10% spending cuts.

  9. - RikiTavi - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 1:57 pm:

Very credible. The ad draws you in because it gives Quinn the benefit of the doubt–for a minute (”Who wouldn’t want these things?”)–and captures people’s initial hope for change coupled with their painful disappointment in Quinn’s performance.

It hits on issues that will resonate with the coffee shop/gas station/Independents out there in voterland: no jobs, higher taxes, more government spending, pay raises for the privileged few. If anything it counteracts or at least dilutes whatever message Joe Slade White injected with his 2nd “Who is this guy” spot. If he puts some serious points behind this, everyone/Independents will be thinking “Yeah, he’s right. Let’s give someone else a chance. Even a millionaire Porsche driver with a Florida address.”

Someone translated polling really well on this one.

    A.

  10. - Peter - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 1:58 pm:

A very good ad, but the YouTube thumbnail is quite unfortunate: at a glance it reads “What’s He Done — Brady for Illinois… TOTAL STATE DEBT $13 BILLION.”

  11. - Decatur Guy - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 2:00 pm:

Good ad. Effective. To the point. Are you better off now than eight years ago.

  12. - RMW Stanford - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 2:01 pm:

Bill has some of the best political AD around. This is a great Ad and I think it will do far more damage to Quinn than Quinn;s new Ads will do to Brady. How many Dem primary voters are kicking themselves for picking Quinn over Hynes now?

  13. - MKA1985 - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 2:11 pm:

Interesting that Brady puts his name more prominently in his ad than Quinn did in his.

We’ve all wondered when Blago would figure into Brady’s attack strategy. But with a message like this, I’m not sure he really needs to.

  14. - Louis G. Atsaves - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 2:19 pm:

“Things have gone from bad to worse.” Great line. Can’t be answered. And is far better than “Who is this guy?”

They stick that to that line about Quinn and we will be swearing in a new Governor in January.

  15. - wordslinger - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 2:24 pm:

Awesome TV ad. They lay it down in the narrative very effectively, weaving in the all the awful economic news with Quinn’s own failures.

If they can make Quinn wear the jacket for Illinois economy and state finances, game’s over.

Very perceptive to bring up the high hopes that were raised by the sobriety exercised by Quinn and the Four Tops during impeachment and with the initial relief that Blago was gone.

The radio ad has basically the same script, but I found the talent a bit shrill. If you’ve got the goods, you don’t have to sell it that hard.

  16. - Ukieduke - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 2:27 pm:

    Homerun!

  17. - D.P. Gumby - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 2:47 pm:

B+ First part weak in blaming Quinn for stuff beyond PQ’s fault, but hits the mark w/ “he had his chance”. That’s solid as long as people believe that PQ’s brief time in ofc equals a full turn. Since Brady’s been in public office longer than Quinn, it’s a little ironic, cuz Brady’s had his chance, too, and never proposed anything.

  18. - D.P. Gumby - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 2:49 pm:

    The radio is better.

  19. - dave - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 3:18 pm:

I actually thought that the radio ad was cheesy, and pretty strange. Did not like it at all.

The TV ad was very good.

  20. - Ghost - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 3:37 pm:

Great ad for brady. Whoever Brady’s campaign managers are they have way outmanuvered Quinn and his attempts at a campaign.

  21. - More Courage - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 3:41 pm:

The TV ad passes the “sound down” test big time. Great message. He had his chance. Things went from bad to worse. People have had enough.

Quinn’s ads may get people asking “Who is this guy?” about Brady. To bad for Quinn the answer for most will be, “Who is this guy, well, at least he isn’t Quinn”.

  22. - Responsa - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 3:41 pm:

I like these ads a lot– both the tone and the message. Very good. Very solid. Very persuasive. A’s on both of them.

A minor quibble: The man’s voice-over on the radio ad was a bit over-dramatic for my taste. He comes across sounding kind of ancient Wilford Brimley-ish. Could probably still get the message across using a little more “regular guy” voice quality. (Instead of so obviously “an actor” approach to the script).

  23. - Fred - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 4:11 pm:

MKA1985, I would bet the Blago/Quinn ads will be strong and often in October.

A for this ad and I agree, a great counter to Quinn’s new ad.

  24. - Voice of Reason - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 4:14 pm:

Better and more effective than Quinns commercial released today.

  25. - Skeeter - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 4:16 pm:

I give it a solid A. That’s Brady’s entire case. Not a word about Brady himself. If Brady makes the campaign about Quinn’s performance, Brady wins easily.

  26. - sal-says - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 4:17 pm:

Hmmmm. “Gone from bad to worse.”

What’s actually gone ‘from bad to worse’ is the lame choices we have for Gov this year.

  27. - CM46 - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 5:02 pm:

TV Ad - great ad production A. Content A+++. Extremely effective Ad. Hits the point and is clear. Grade A+

Radio Ad - Same content so that’s an A++. For some reason the music in the back ground shouldn’t have been the same all the way through. At the beginning of the ad, I think the music was okay but when the guy says “what’s he done” there should have been a better transition with the music. I can’t explain exactly what but something different than the guitar in the background keeping the beat. I think it should have abruptly stopped. And having a softer kind of “tragic” music playing. Maybe bringing back the guitar toward the end but there should have been more of a transition between what we thought was good times and then the bad stuff.

    Otherwise solid A ad.

  28. - Small Town Liberal - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 6:08 pm:

The television ad is pretty decent, but I think has too much information for the amount of time. B-

Radio ad is way too long and the actor sounds like he’s trying to scare old folks into buying flood insurance or something. Maybe that’s the point though. D+

  29. - just sayin' - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 6:53 pm:

Illinois has lost a lot of jobs. Some because Bill Brady sacked most of his employees so he could travel around in his luxury bus playing big shot and badmouthing the state at every stop.

  30. - Objective Dem - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 7:51 pm:

I would say a b. The idea that Quinn had a chance is good. Pushing the idea that Quinn wants to raise your taxes and he gave his staff raises is effective. But too much of the ads blame Quinn for the impact of the recession. The average voter knows Quinn isn’t responsible for the job losses or even the fiscal shape of the state.

If I were Quinn I would hit hard on the fact that it was Republican policies that Bill Brady advocated and still advocates that pushed us into the Great Recession. The Dem party needs to hit that message hard statewide as a constant theme.

  31. - Will County Woman - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 10:25 pm:

    Very well done! A+

This is probably my favorite of the Brady attack ads on Quinn, and I liked all of the others, with the execption of the two chicks in the diner.

This ad coming out on the same day as Quinn’s totally must’ve wiped all of the smiles off of Quinn and everyone in his camp’s faces.

“I actually thought that the radio ad was cheesy, and pretty strange. Did not like it at all.”-dave - Thursday, Sep 9, 10 @ 3:18 pm:

Strange????? Not at all! unlike the Mumsy at the auction radio ad that the DGA put out for Quinn. How soon everyone forgets.
