Die-hard election results live-blog - ONLY CHICAGO, COOK COUNTY REMAIN; Fox: 9,000 absentees in Chicago

Wednesday, Nov 3, 2010 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Midnight - I’m staying up. You with me?

* Oh, and in case you were wondering, Gov. Quinn’s lead is now 7,576 votes.

*** 12:06 am *** Bill Brady just said the election won’t be decided tonight, so that’s it for him.

*** 12:10 am *** The AP has declared Republican Bob Dold the winner in the 10th CD.

* 12:33 am - The Quinn margin is now 10,933.

* 12:39 am - This is odd. Here is the AP total for Speaker Madigan’s district

November 03, 2010 - 01:30AM ET
State House - District 22 - General
Illinois - 43 of 87 Precincts Reporting - 49%
Madigan , Michael (i) Dem 8,294 81%
Ryan , Patrick GOP 1,889 19%

Notice that less than half the precincts are reported as counted. But the city and the county both have MJM’s district as completely counted.

So, either somebody forgot to update a single district. Or, the AP isn’t including those MJM district totals in their grand totals. I strongly suspect it’s the former, not the latter. But one never knows.

*** 12:43 am *** From Caroi Fowler of Fox Chicago

9k absentee ballots in Chicago still to be counted.

That would be the ballgame.

* 12:48 am -
Quinn’s lead is now 9,033.

* 12:50 am - Precincts not yet counted statewide: 266. Precincts not counted in Chicago: 53. Not counted in Cook: 69, which is the same as earlier. I hope David Orr has not gone to bed. That would suck.

* 12:54 am - Quinn to crowd: “It looks like another landslide victory is heading our way.”

* 12:55 am - The governor’s lead is now 9,133.

* 12:57 am - Quinn: “I think when all is said, we’ll end up on top with the most votes.” And the crowd goes wild.

* 1:04 am - Great. Just great. The Chicago elections results website is down.

* 1:16 am - The AP hasn’t updated in a while, so I’m gonna take a nap. Update in comments if you wish. Thanks much for everything tonight. I have the greatest commenters on Planet Earth. Bar none!

*** 1:30 am *** Barton here. As Rich said, the CBOE’s Web site is down, but Cook County and the AP continue to provide updates. There are now 32 precincts that still need to be counted in the County. Quinn leads by 8,515.

* 1:43 am - Some new data from the city board. There are now 48 Chicago precincts uncounted. Quinn leads Brady in the city precincts that have been counted 75.4% - 17.5%.

* 1:50 am - It would appear as if the downstate vote is done being counted, according to a graphic POLITICO is maintaining with data from the AP. It’s on you, Cook County.

gov uncertainty should make Thursday’s session interesting. Think Brady will show?

  3. - hisgirlfriday - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:15 am:

Logical Thinker, on your point about a Pyrrhic Victory from the previous thread — It depends on which is more important to you. What has more power and prestige and more ability to help your party? A governor’s office with control over a $60B budget and thousands of jobs or some new Congresscritters with bully pulpits and no leadership positions and control of no more than 100 Republican jobs?

OT… I never watch CBS2 but do Bill Curtis and Walter Jacobsen always resemble the old guys on the Muppet Show anchoring the news or is it just the way they’re set up for election coverage?

  6. - Dan Johnson-Weinberger - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:16 am:

Looks like 2,000,000 fewer votes in 2010 than in 2008 (about the same as 2006). Reminds of what Speaker Madigan said about the 1970 Constitutional Convention — moving gubernatorial elections to the “off-year” was the biggest tactical mistake.

It really is something that we lose 40% of the electorate for every gubernatorial election. There’s something very wrong about that.

Heck yeah. Too much beer in the fridge…and too much of an investment after a month of working for the campaign.

I’m going to bed, been up since 4:00 am (like a lot of people, I know!).

311 precincts out for Gov, with nearly half in Cook plus those 9500 absentee ballots. I’m utterly amazed, but I think Quinn pulled it out

  11. - shore - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:18 am:

Of course in this election year do you have a recount.

I have to hand it to comrade madigan, that was some work he and his squad did. For all the talk about obama, madigan did a better job in illinois and this is probably why he is who he is.

I’m not going to bed until Rich or Barton give us the official, “Comments Closed For The Weekend” at which point in time, I will retire to my bed and come to grips with the fact we have Senate Session on Thursday.

  14. - rummy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:19 am:

    1,312,416 votes counted in cook,

with 97% reporting I would say there’s roughly 30,000-40,000 votes left in cook,

so with quinn has been averaging 64% in cook county

    30k to 40k x 63&= 18k-25k votes left for quinn in cook.

  15. - Amalia - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:19 am:

yep, thankful you are up doing this for us Rich!

fun watching Alexi and Kirk turn into people who want to drink beer and not be snappish with each other (sorry, Alexi people, Kirk did mention your guy and tried to shut his crowd down, please face that reality). I am a Democrat but I truly believe
    that Kirk was more deserving.

also fun watching Bill and Walter…yikes, it’s the 60s and 70s!

So is the problem with military personnel not getting their absentee ballots–and the lateness of the ones who did–going to be one of the Brady camp’s reasons for the loss? Will they be on the state board of elections about how that fiasco was handled?

Stay tuned for the next episode of “The Brady Bunch Moves to the Governor’s Mansion” on this station.

  25. - hisgirlfriday - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:22 am:

So who is going to head to the Billy Goat Tavern tomorrow (at Lower Michigan, not Lower Wacker Mark Kirk) to see if Kirk and Alexi show up to share that bipartisan beer?

That was a halfway decent moment in his speech and the news cut away before he started working with Durbin which is a shame, because it seemed like his first part of the speech was way smug and cocky like a guy who won by 10 or 15 percent and not cut things super close. Pretty offputting. Will be interesting to see if he becomes besties with the Maine ladies or gives the Tea Party folks what they want in terms of obstructionism.

  26. - IrishPirate(Bluto) - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:22 am:

Assuming Quinn Hangs on I wonder about the future
Cook County alone can run the state.A similar thing happened in New York depite senate and Gov Landslides there upstate house seats were worse than ours 2 of our dem losses were Mark Kirk related . If it was another teabagger Only 17and 11 would have gone. I think New York was worse but if dems hold legislature there like here thye can unpack New York and Chicago and think of CA and Florida The house could flip flop a lot
Ohio MI and PA were wipe outs due to much worse economic devatation than say IL or MN .

Sorry if I am rambling but this is really a strange election and I think a significant one

  29. - Brett - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:23 am:

Question: Who gets the military vote? It would seem the Brady camp has realized their only hope lies within these ballots. How many soldiers funerals did he attend?

    what we’ll be talking about

senate race - alexi too much baggage, the lelan factor?, inexperienced.

I though Alexi ran a smart campaign but just came up a little bit short.

Gov. race - plummer bummer?, the cohen factor, chicago democrats?.

  35. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:26 am:

    Hey … everyone …

I just got a note that the Brady campaign is NOT telling Jason they are losing yet … they are calling it “Operation Santa Claus” … so when you want to reference votes, call them “peanuts” and when you want to mention Quinn … you say “Hamster”

    Example …

“Well, the ‘Hamster’ has about 8k ‘peanuts’ now”

Don’t break Jason’s heart … don’t bust his bubble yet … we were kid’s once too

  36. - cuban pilot - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:26 am:

I will stay up as long as I can, but as I have my night cap (err, my 3rd night cap before bed), I and all my conservatives in southern illinois are troubled by this:

    Kirk wins,
    Rutherford wins,
    JBT wins,
Dwight Kay wins (really sweet, b/c a friend of blago is no friend of mine),
    McCann wins,
    Rosenthal wins,
    dold wins,
    hultgren wins,
    kinzinger wins,
    walsh probably wins,
nationally, we now have speaker boehner,

yet, somehow, Bill Brady loses. I don’t get it. I know the real answer is that downstate and the collars don’t matter. Combine that with the ole’ whore beating pawnbroker, I understand how Brady loses. Probably right. However, nine months ago, if you told me my party would win everthig but governor and kilbride retention, I would have taken it. However, tonight, it feels like a confusing result/victory.

  37. - D.P. Gumby - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:27 am:

    thank God Kilbride was retained!

  39. - CT - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:27 am:

there will be all types of opinions on what lost if for brady but give it up for quinn for never shying away from brady’s stands on abortion and guns in a year where the economy and jobs were the major issues

  47. - Bookworm - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:30 am:

“Ohio, MI and PA were wipeouts due to much worse economic devastation than, say, IL”

Well, if Quinn and MJM are still running the show 2-4 years from now and if IL has caught up with Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, et. al. in the economic/fiscal devastation department… then it might be GOP wipe out time here, just a little later than everywhere else.

Trib has apparently called the Treasurer’s race in favor or Rutherford. Let’s see how long it takes for he and Judy to introduce legislation to combine the offices. Great win by Dan and a strong challenge by Kelly.

  55. - Angry Chicagoan - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:32 am:

I feel like we’re losing the country. The torrent of Citizens’ United corporate money turned this election. It helps to explain why Quinn may yet win and Giannoulias lost — the opposite from expectations, not to mention the opposite of the quality of the candidates on both sides. The country is gradually being bought by corporations, many of them from abroad, who do not have the national interest at heart. And in a sense, we’re witnessing the abdication of America’s superpower status with this trend, with this election as the clearest step yet. We face two years of kicking the can down the road, with probably an intensification of the country’s financial troubles as a consequence. The torrent of corporate propaganda on the media during this election was worthy of Putin’s Russia, and it’s only going to get worse.

  56. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:33 am:

I’m with you Rich. As I’m listening to Ramblin’ Jack my thoughts go to what a problem the state is in. I like Brady as a friend and that’s why he go my vote. But if he loses, I am not sure tax increases solve our problems. As I tell my wife and anyone else who will listen, I have no confidence thet Quinn will stop spending and use new money to take care of old problems. Add the very sorry state of state workers who are not in the unions that will be pulling the heavy loads and I am not sure what the close Blue v. Red races will mean for our ability to do the bootstrap thing and get us out of where we are.

But as Jack says: “There’s more pretty girls than one.”

Pat’s background and stage sure looks a little different than it did in the primary huh?

  88. - Buck - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:53 am:

    Henry Bayer is there now

  89. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:53 am:

MJM is “a” or even “the” big winner … his caucus is safe *see MJM Rules … and Lisa is the 400Lb gorilla leaving scrap piles behind her, leapfroging to Governor …

Quinn! …. Jason doens’t know he is behind … have a heart, it looks like you are going to win, just be merciful.

“I can’t wait until the gop primary for congress here in about 12 months……who will have to fight who?”

Schock vs. Kinzinger. May the best Matinee Idol win!

    PQ- “We honor…..Scott Lee Cohen”
    WOW

  92. - steve schnorf - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:55 am:

I wonder how many times JBT has to lead the R ticket (from down-ballot positions, no less) before people give her the respect and thanks to which she is entitled? And for those of you who want to dis her, Bite Me!

  93. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:55 am:

    Rich, you are spot on!

With 9k in absentees in Cook … Quinn can CLAIM his victory, but leave the wiggle-room to be gracious …

  94. - cuban pilot - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:56 am:

    Thanks willy,

all these young congressmen, yet 2 or 3 will be killed in a gruesome fight in 15 months. I hope Schook has not spent all his money on fancy new cloths, he may need some add time two marches from now. Hopefully, he will have enough money to overcome the pic. Yeah, I am sure any primary opponent will have fun with that pic of schook in those white pants with president BAM.

going back to redistricting, as a silver lining, it will be neat to see how evil speaker mm will be towards his gop opponents. I always thought he was evil, but he could be worse than I thought. I realize that the speaker and his team have been in a secret location for months coming up with really cool maps to torture us. God ahve mercy on me!

  95. - Logical Thinker - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:56 am:

The irony is that the Dems still have the same problems in this state even with their victories tonight. Quinn is going to have to cut a lot of those union jobs at the state level and MJM and Quinn are going to have to forge some sort of working relationship.

  96. - imeanreally - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:57 am:

You have to think that the GOP will convince Johnson to retire and somehow try to protect Kinzinger with some combination of those districts. They can’t afford to lose Schock or Kinzinger. I know they may not have much say, but they may be willing to lose a seat to keep those 2 as rising stars.

  97. - kj - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:58 am:

  101. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:59 am:

    Big winner with Quinn.

  102. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 12:59 am:

Did anyone else hear Mike Flannery chastise the Brady campaign for “hiding” all summer? (No schedules, no face time, no availablity)

I agree with Jerry’s strategy with that, especially with Plummer, but I guess when Quinn had ZERO campaign all summer, Brady should have made SOME hay …but I agree with Jerry on that 1 …it was a tough call.

  103. - Nearly Normal - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:00 am:

Tim Johnson is sort of a maverick so I doubt he will just go away to keep the party happy.

    Priceless!

  107. - Logical Thinker - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:01 am:

I might be crazy, but if I’m Lisa Madigan with the bloodbath over the budget that is going to happen on the state level in the next few years, I think I take the mayor job and be happy to find a niche that I could own for years. 4 years is an eternity in politics.

  108. - Pot calling kettle - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:03 am:

If Quinn pulls this off, the House needs to come in session on Jan 2 and pass the tax increase the Senate passed in ‘09. If they don’t do it then, it’s hard to see how it ever passes. Perhaps Quinn cuts a deal with MJM to be a one-termer before he can get his hands on the revenue.

  109. - Ivoted4Judy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:03 am:

Thanks. Bed time. Quinn+Madigan+Cullerton+Kilbride =’s Dem map. 10 more years.

  110. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:03 am:

Biggert might be looking to retire … maybe if we did leave, the loss for Repubs would only be “2 Net 2″ for the Dems …

  111. - Did You Expect A Miracle? - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:04 am:

So I’m assuming by the comments that Quinn did make remarks. Where can we see/hear them and Rich are you going to have a link to the full speech in Wednesday’s column?

  112. - kj - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:04 am:

Logical, how sure are you she isn’t on a ballot in a few months?

  113. - steve schnorf - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:05 am:

The Chicago budget problem isn’t going to any easier than the state’s, particularly since so many revenue streams have been sold off and the reserve money spent on operations

  115. - IrishPirate(Bluto) - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:06 am:

Does Scott Lee Cohen legally reside in Chicago?

Considering the millions he pumped into the economy with this race perhaps some con$ultant$ can talk him into running for Mayor.

As to all other gop congresscritters, I will defer to overlord madigan as to what republicans must enter the thounderdome (two men enter, one man leave).

  117. - kj - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:08 am:

Also, Rich, How much could Bean be helped by late Democratic absentees? Wasn’t a big problem with the coordinated campaign in Lake?

  118. - Spectator - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:08 am:

Schnorf - I thought “bite me” was Rich’s domain.

  119. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:08 am:

    Rich,

Numbers … what is the R/D split in the ILGA (both chambers) as you are seeing it?

  120. - Amalia - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:08 am:

down to 3 channels in Chicago. Carol Marin is pushing the Lisa for Mayor line. Charles Thomas on ABC7 says quinn has lawyered up. he, Charles, be careful how you use that line with a gov in Ill!

  121. - Quinn T. Sential - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:10 am:

Just came back from Dold, and then Kirk HQ celebrations where the crowd was wall to wall at each. Jammed at the stage at Kirk HQ, and I had reporters from around the world reading the CAPFAX comments over my shoulder on my phone.

    What a night!

  122. - steve schnorf - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:10 am:

Spectator, I am bearded also, and have often passed as Rich at different events.

  123. - Logical Thinker - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:12 am:

Someone is going to have to carry the mantle of “anyone but Rahm” from the machine bosses. I think Lisa is the one to do it and she wins without a run-off. How much flak does Rahm catch for the results of last night?

I’m stunned that Quinn won. Absolutely stunned. Wonder how those Brady transition team meetings went for the last 3 weeks? But his win opens up a lot of shuffling of the deck. In 2014, you have the governor seat AND Durbin’s Senate seat. What if Durbin doesn’t run again? A possibility; not a probability though.

  124. - Retired Non-Union Guy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:12 am:

Yes, but has Rich ever passed as you at budget hearings?

  125. - Spectator - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:12 am:

Taller and grayer, but I kinda get the similarity.

  126. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:14 am:

LT, the Madigans are an extremely cautious breed. They don’t run unless they know they win. I don’t see it.

  127. - steve schnorf - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:14 am:

Rich is able to pass as many people; it’s called the “Jameson effect”. Sometimes he and I would switch places at budget briefings.

  128. - cuban pilot - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:14 am:

  130. - Quinn T. Sential - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:16 am:

Shhhhh QTS has had an ear to the ground and there has been some rumbling of a ANYONE BUT RAHM dark horse candidate lurking in the shadows who has not even been mentioned before.

I believe we will know by Friday at the latest of they are in for sure. They will be buning up the coconut telegraph between now and then for sure.

  133. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:17 am:

By sundown tomorrow, QTS will know who could be the Dark Horse in the mayor’s race ….

  134. - IL-12 PorkBarrel - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:18 am:

The Plummer/Cohen combo ultimately doomed Brady. Plummer put many people in the same akward position they were in when faced with McCain/Palin in ‘08. Cohen gave people the option to vent against everyone. Both resulted in lost peanuts.

  135. - Amalia - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:19 am:

no more local coverage on chicago tv. we’re off to Lisa Murkowski discussions etc.

anyone know the threshold to kick out a judge on the retention ballot? one got below 60% with some pcts. out.

ugh, national coverage….Rand Paul….we’ve come to take our government back. I’m no fan of Obama, but the tea party rhetoric is maddening.

  136. - Quinn T. Sential - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:19 am:

  137. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:19 am:

==Plummer put many people in the same akward position==

I doubt if many people had a clue about Plummer. Brady was in a awkward position because he just doesn’t align well with the voting population of the state.

  143. - Susie - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:24 am:

it’s been swell, folks, but I’m all in. I am hoping for a nice surprise in the morning–Brady pulled it off, but I suspect that is a pipe dream, huh? good night!

  144. - cuban pilot - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:26 am:

I got a bad feeling that if I still have some more whiskey in my closet when I go check, that Oswego willy and I will close down this party by crying in our drinks and trying to find someone to blame and looking at all the bad to come.

On a plus side, if I pass out and don’t have time to shave tommorow morning because I wake up late, the women will love me tommorow.

  145. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:27 am:

  146. - Anon - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:28 am:

Head scratcher on the state-wides. Kirk runs (record notwithstanding) as a fiscal conservative and wins. Quinn has openly espoused heavy tax increases and also wins.

  147. - Spectator - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:28 am:

I don’t know Pot. It seems about half the state (and the vast majority of counties) were with Brady.

  148. - Southsider - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:29 am:

Again this is a victory night for Madigan/Cullerton who save the legislature for the Dems. with coattails for Quinn. Also, by tomorrow we will see that white ethnic wards had decent turnouts and went big for Quinn. It will be interesting to see how inner city voter turn out was. Finally, womans organizations had an effective in the last week. Plus Quinn is the luckiest SOB in politics.

  149. - GOPGal - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:29 am:

What are you drinking (slides an empty glass)?

  154. - Pot calling kettle - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:34 am:

  155. - Spectator - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 1:35 am:

So here’s a question for the punditocracy here.

If Kirk get’s sworn in as Burris replacement due to the Special Election, then is there a vacancy in the 10th during the lame duck session?

Can Dodl be sworn into the vacancy prior to the election being certified?

If he can be sworn in, does seniority begin to accrue for both of them before their other colleagues are sworn in in January?

  174. - cuban pilot - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:05 am:

    Willy,

    I have consumed the drink……and, that’s nasty.

Lawyers can do remarkable things. Make it Irish (Black Bush) and I’m all in. Scotch? I’m in too, but I just won’t enjoy it as much. Rich has to be part of the bet (whoever loses buys for Rich as well) otherwise we won’t know how to find each other.

  176. - Quinn T. Sential - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:09 am:

    8,349 votes now

  177. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:10 am:

CP - Well said on Self-sensorship

QTS - think it stays vacant, there is a 90 day window after the seat is declared vacant for a Special Election and the new Congress will be sworn in before the 90 days. with Dold being a Repub and Quinn a Dem, even if they could appoint, I doubt the climate in the state would make it palletable

  178. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:11 am:

  187. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:21 am:

When the Campaign Staff … PAID Staff for Bill Brady wake up tomorrow … and they see they blew it by less than a vote a precinct - after getting through a primary like the cat who swallowed the canary …will they be upset they lost it the same way a Dillard crew lost the primary? Or … Will they be upset they just lost it? Why ask this question?

It seems we never learn from history … from years ago … or months ago … and that is why we get a Dem remap for 10 years …

  188. - Quinn T. Sential - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:23 am:

    Why ask this question?

Because Dillard never opted for a re-count; but will Brady take a pass as well?

  189. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:24 am:

80 precincts … 250 votes = 20,000 votes … at a 60/40 split … all for Brady …4,000 plurality … that is what you are chasing … 4k as your “best case senerio”

    Thoughs?

  190. - BigMac - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:25 am:

Oswego, judging by Cook Counties returns, I don’t see how Brady can even hope for 60/40. This thing is done.

  191. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:26 am:

I am guessing they will ask for the recount … but if Dillard asks for the recount … and loses… and costs both men money they would need in the general, there was no winning senerio …With Quinn … roll the dice.

I am just making the point … we Repubs … even in the sweetest of victory, never learn from the wins.

    BigMac … my point exactly!

  193. - cuban pilot - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:27 am:

    willy,

paid staff will be upset just because they lost. for a real conservative who in any other year would be doa upon winning the primary, this opportunity would be golden, a bleeping opportuinty.

Yet, they lost to a strong dem team. Make no mistake, jerry and co. will take this to their grave, their bleeping grave. But, they were always fighting an uphill battle.

why ask this question? i dont’ know, but maybe b/c all of us illinois conservatives are asking why do we do this. That is why you asked. We must face the realization that no complete conservative will ever be chief illinois executive.

  194. - BigMac - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:30 am:

    Oswego, got ya.

  195. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:30 am:

    CP -

You are on it …its hard being a conservative and a pragnatist at the same time too, isn’t it?

  196. - cuban pilot - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:33 am:

    Willy,

Pretty much….we have two options in life…

    1) we can just keep drinking; or,

    2) buy a cabing in the woods of either tenn. or wyoming and just live off the land through hunting and fishing and just pretend this world doesn’t exist.

however, since I don’t know how to field dress a moose, I will stick to the drinking.

  197. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:38 am:

I may be in Kendall County, but I cant go all Unibomber in the one-room cabin!

    I guess its alcohol.

The other shoe in all this … the big white elephant in the room for conservatives to answer is …who is going to wear the jacket when its pointed out that the most liberal republican congressman in Illinois runs statewide, the same time one of the most conservative state senators in the Illinois general assembly runs statewide, and the liberal republican does better downstate that the conservative … love to hear that convo!

  198. - cuban pilot - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:46 am:

    willy,

it is clear that overlord madigan and vice-minister quinn kicked cohen off the ballot so that he could later steal votes from brady.

Yeah, that is studpid. Funniest thing i keep hearing is that “Kirk rode Brady’s downstate coattails to victory.” Event thought is is somewhat true, still pretty funny.

  199. - Southsider - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:50 am:

Quinn’s staff has all gone home with big smiles on their faces.
It’s simple math, Quinn wins…time for sleep.

  200. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 3, 10 @ 2:52 am:

    CP -

Wait till the next conservative tries to run statewide again. “You do remember Brady, right?”

Well, that is not my question to answer, but it will be someone’s to answer, probably in 4 years!
